... is gorgeous when the weather is good. September is sometimes the best month of the year – the weather is still bright and calm for days at a time. Some of the summer photographs on this Website were taken in September. Some years, however, rain and northeasterly winds make their mark on the autumn months, giving them an atmosphere that many visitors find invigorating. Herding and corralling of sheep ... ... are among the chief events of country life in the autumn. Kirkjubol’s sheepfold is situated on the farm, and sheep are gathered there every autumn. In recent years there have been almost as many people at the herding as there are sheep, though sheep farming is the pride of the county. Those who wish to see the spectacle should be able to attend a sheep herding at one of the many farms in Strandir. Laugarholl in Bjarnarfjordur is the home of the annual sheep-herding ball.
Berry picking in Strandir ... ... in August or early September is an annual event in the lives of an increasing number of people. Excellent berry fields can be found all over the area, including Thidriksvalladalur near Holmavik. Many visitors make their way to Strandir for weekend trips in the autumn, to pick berries and enjoy life. The autumn is also the time ... ... when seals enjoy the fresh air, perched comfortably on the rocks by the beach beyond Kirkjubol. Swans congregate as well, along with their cygnets, in the coves between Husavik and Hrofa River before they migrate from Iceland to the British Isles.
