The Guest House

In the guesthouse are 5 bedrooms – single and double rooms. It is possible to add children’s beds to augment this sleeping space. Kirkjubol places special emphasis on providing excellent service to families. There is a comfortable living room in the guesthouse, as well as a television, books and board games.

Breakfast and Cooking Facilities

Kirkjubol Travel Services offers a sumptuous breakfast upon request, but guests are free to eat their own food if they wish. No other meals are provided, but the house has cooking facilities as well as all essential appliances, including a coffee maker, a toaster and a microwave oven. The cooking facilities are, of course, available to guests to use as they please.

Children’s House and Playground

A small playground is at Kirkjubol. Plans include the renovation of one of the outbuildings for use as a Children’s House – a special sanctuary where the children are the masters.

Saevangur

The Saevangur Community Centre is within walking distance from guesthouse at Kirkjubol.

The vicinity – abundant services and a great deal to see:

Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft: an exhibition in Strandir: During the summer of 2000, a fascinating exhibition was opened in Holmavik. The subject of the exhibition is witchcraft in the 17th century: superstition, spirits, and sorcery. Click here to visit the Website of the Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft Exhibition.

Café Riis Restaurant: Holmavik also boasts a remarkable first-class restaurant in the town’s oldest building. Entertainment evenings are scheduled regularly throughout the summer, and live music is can be heard from time to time on the weekends. Click here to visit the Café Riis Website.

Information Centre: An Information Centre is operated during the summer in the lobby of the Community Centre in Holmavik. The local handiwork group Strandakúnst also sells its wares there.

Swimming pool: The nearest swimming pool is at Hólmavík (12 km). There is another at Hotel Laugarholl in Bjarnarfjordur (38 km). It has been named Gvendarlaug in honour of Bishop Gudmundur the Good. Near the pool is a natural spring that functions as a hot tub.

Golf course: Golfing enthusiasts can drop in at the Skeljavik Golf Course, a lovely 9-hole course just outside Holmavik. Admission to the course is sold at the Information Centre in Holmavik.

Sailing and Deep-sea Fishing: The ship Sundhani is harboured at Drangsnes and offers sailing out to Grímsey to visit the puffins and also deep-sea fishing tours.

Trout fishing: Trout usually comes late – in late July or in August – to the rivers at Strandir. Bjarnarfjardara River is an excellent fishing river. In addition, it is possible to purchase a fishing licence for Fellsa River in Kollafjordur or Vididalsa River near Holmavik. Vididalsa River offers salmon fishing as well. Several fishing lakes can also be found up in the highlands.
